The Andersen Family came to the new studio! | St. Louis Park Family Photographer

April 5, 2012

You know when you meet a family and you can literally see the love radiating from them? The Andersen Family – Brenda, Poul and their two sons – are that kind of family!

During the session with their family, their sons were so awesome. Here are some photos of them that bring a HUGE smile to my face.

730 Days and Counting | Personal

April 1, 2012

730 days = 43, 800 minutes = 2 years

I am ecstatic to tell you that is the length of time I have been full-time self-employed.  What an amazing feeling!  Being owner and lead photographer at Jessica Barker Photography for the last 2 years has given me more than I can explain in words, but I’m going to try…

Presence – Being there, truly THERE, for Lily before and after school is priceless.

Flexibility – Setting my own schedule helps me be on-point for my business, my family and myself.  Yes, I still set an alarm, but it’s not as early as it once was!

Creative – I have always been creative in my work, but now it’s my JOB to create.

Independence – As a small business owner, there are definitely pros and cons, but there’s nothing that can hold a candle to being your own boss.

Peace – I am at peace in my career for the first time. The joy of getting up every day and doing what I love… it’s… indescribably awesome.

Gratitude – My friends, family, clients, artist peers and supporters are one of the reasons I have been successful.  I am forever grateful for your never-ending encouragement, love, resources, and referrals (!).

I look forward to many more years of creating beautiful photographs for families. Thank YOU for all that you have done and continue to do for my business and me.

Because a photographer’s blog post is never without a photograph, here is a photo of the main room of my new studio in St. Louis Park.  Watch for another blog post this week with more details!

ABOUT BOUDOIR

Boudoir photography involves creating intimate and romantic images of a woman, most commonly wearing lingerie. Boudoir is a French term that refers to a bedroom which is the setting for these images. Having these photos made is a rising trend for women across the country – from brides giving an album to their fiancé on their wedding day to women taking photos for themselves. It’s fun to have a day of pampering with hair and makeup and then have some beautiful photos taken afterwards. Women always leave the photo shoot feeling more confident and many say it was a liberating experience.  Jessica will provide guidance during the tasteful photo session to accentuate only your most fabulous features. Bring your favorite lingerie, nylons/tights, high heeled shoes, a sexy hat, pearl necklaces, or even a men’s dress shirt.  I promise, the experience will be unforgettable!

Little Miss Lindsey | St. Paul Infant Photographer

June 30, 2011

On a hot and humid day in early June, I met Lindsey and her family at a beautiful home on Grand Avenue in St. Paul for her garden photo session.  She is sitting up, loves to smile and shows off her 2 bottom teeth.  Mom and Dad as well as Grandma and Grandpa were on-hand just in case I needed some extra help, but Lindsey was a dream to photograph. We even changed her clothes three times!

I have had the opportunity to make beautiful photos of Lindsey for both her newborn and 3-month portraits.  I look forward to her 9-month session where the whole family will join in the fun!

Near the end of the session, a falcon came and watched. It was so tame that it allowed me to get pretty close to snap this photo. I hope you enjoyed Lindsey’s blog post!

My Name is Earle | Minnetonka Pet Photographer

May 17, 2011

Sweet-faced Earle and his Mama, Andrea, came to the studio in March for a chic and very fun photo session to capture Earle as a just-over-12 week old puppy. Andrea came prepared with tons of treats and several props, but my favorite were her legs in heels!  Earle was so fun when he arrived – he barreled into the studio and attacked me with love and licks.  After settling down a bit, he listened well and posed for several amazing photos that Andrea will treasure for a lifetime. I hope you enjoy these photos of Earle and his adoring Mama. I will never forget this session and the fun we had.

By the way, you may recognize Earle as one of the nine Save-A-Bull-Rescue puppies on Sarah Beth Photography’s blog. The second photo is Earle! Can you see the resemblance?

Mama loves Crossfit!

Look at those paws!!

What a difference a year can make! | Personal

April 1, 2011

Last year on this day, I started the next chapter of my life. I chose me. I chose my family. I chose my life. I left my full-time corporate job and leapt, yes LEAPT, into my photography business. I was overwhelmed by the support from my friends, family and colleagues… YOU.

Fast forward 12 months, 90 photo sessions, and hundreds of clients… I am so proud of how far I have come both professionally and artistically.

Have I been scared? Of course.

Was I ever nervous about making ends meet? Yes.

Have I questioned my decision? NO.

I worked harder. I dug deeper. I learned more. I set goals and I conquered them.  The bottom line was: I trusted myself as a savvy business owner and stayed true to my personal beliefs and ethics.

2011 has been a great year so far and it’s only getting better. The great leap of faith is not finished. I am still leaping.

Lindsey is Pretty in Pink | Hopkins Infant Photographer

March 28, 2011

Meet Miss Lindsey!  She stopped by the studio for her 3-month session.  I had the pleasure of taking her newborn photos last fall and now look how big she is! I love her sparkly eyes and that little grin is especially lovable. She was awesome during the session even though we changed her clothes lots of times. I think she liked being in just her diaper the best!  Enjoy these photos from the session and Happy Monday!

Kara’s 1-Year Photos | Minneapolis Toddler Photographer

February 28, 2011

Remember when you were 10 years old and you met a friend at camp that you SWORE you’d keep in touch with forever? That’s exactly what Keith and I did in the mid-80s and we never looked back. When he told me he was expecting a baby with his beautiful bride, Jamie, I couldn’t have been happier. Keith and Jamie have this love that can be seen outside their bodies – it exudes from them and embraces those around them like a warm blanket. I love this family! I had the supreme pleasure of capturing Kara’s newborn photos last February and once again this February just before she turned ONE.

I couldn’t resist making the Kara Monster collage as a surprise gift for them. I hope you enjoy these photos from our session at the studio as well as at the Walker Art Center.

Cuddly Cora ~ 8 Days New | At-Home Newborn Photographer

January 19, 2011

Little Miss Cora was so sweet during my photo session with her. She was wide awake the entire time and didn’t make a peep. She loved watching me and even was able to snuggle up in my new cocoon from Baby Hattitude. A little background on this sweet girl… she is the first child of a couple dear friends from college. She is a little miracle baby who held on for as long as she could before joining her parents in early December at just 5 pounds 3 ounces. She is happy and very healthy – we are all very thankful for that! My daughter and I just went up to visit her again this past weekend and she has grown a lot. We couldn’t get enough of her. Here are some of my favorite photos from the our photo session when she was just 8 days old.
